The Dressmaking course at the NITA Textile Training Institute (NTTI) is a 9-month program aimed at equipping students with practical skills in dress design, pattern drafting, sewing, and alteration techniques. This course, accredited by Kenya's National Industrial Training Authority (NITA), is ideal for beginners as well as those with basic sewing experience who want to refine their skills for personal use or professional growth.
The program includes 6 months of classroom learning covering key topics like garment construction, stitching methods, and measurement techniques, followed by a 3-month industrial attachment to provide hands-on experience. Participants who complete the course successfully can sit for NITA certification exams in three levels (Grade III to Grade I), with each level adding to their competency in the field.
